Protestant church women mobilize support for defence forces

Women of protestant churches in the country organized a series of activities and a walk for peace in Yaounde on Saturday May 27, 2015.

Their contribution was a strong sign of protest against the atrocities of the terrorist sect Boko Haram. Protestant women from 11 movement mobilized by the Council of Protestant churches in Cameroon (CEPCA), stood up Saturday at 20 May Boulevard.

A large walk organised followed by worship for peace in Cameroon, while the older women observed a day of fasting and prayer throughout the national territory. In their songs and praises, they expressed commitment to nonviolence.

According to Dr. Delphine Hiom Etoua, Executive Secretary of the Department of Social Affairs of the CEPCA and women, "women are the first and main victims of war. And they are often raped. It is our husbands who are enrolled in the war and are killed.

We are the ones who carry the burdens of children and pregnancies because we flee the war. We are reminded that in the far North, the women give birth in the open air, without support."

Facing these black and gloomy days of women in times of war, the family is disrupted and destroyed. And the presence of the Pr Marie-Thérèse Abena Ondoua, Minister for the Advancement of Women and the family (Minproff), gave meaning and substance to this plea to the Lord.

Because they have a spiritual and social role, the Minproff hoped that their abundant invocations for peace may be answered by the Lord. "We also invite all people to join them to raise awareness against violence to foster peace in their families.

Because, if they are in peace, it is the whole nation that will be stable," noted Minproff. In their activities, the CEPCA women tried to comfort victims of Boko Haram and combat all forms of violence based on gender.
