Medics dismiss rumours of Ebola outbreak in Cameroon

The Director of the Kumba District Hospital Dr Zachs Ebongo Nganje has dismissed rumours and misinformation that, two cases of people suffering from the deadly Ebola virus have been detected in Nguti , Kupe Muaneneguba Division , Southwest Region.

According to Ebongo, if it were so, only the Minister in charge of Public Health can give such information out to the entire nation. Ebongo stated that, medics were keen on a possible identification but declarations can only be made by the competent authority.

He explained that, the Ebola virus has an international diplomatic connotation which calls for a lot of observations from Governments. In a chat with reporters, Southwest Regional health boss Victor Njie Mbome said nothing concrete has been noticed in that light but assured that, Government was on red alert.

However, rumour was already making the rounds as at Friday, August 1, that, two serious cases of the virus was causing commotion in the Nguti Sub-Division.

The Post contacted an inhabitant of Nguti who claimed that the District Medical Officer, DMO, for Nguti, Dr Ndongmou said the information was a mere rumour.

The DMO is reported to have been called upon to examine a patient brought to the St John of God hospital Nguti which turned out not to be the deadly virus.
