Vaccine against poliomyelitis mandatory at airports

A release of the Cameroonian Minister of public health André Mama Fouda, recently made public, introduced the polio vaccine in the list of those payable in the country's airports.

Travelers departing or arriving Cameroon will now be vaccinated against the wild polio-virus. The Cameroonian health authorities explain this measure by the epidemic situation in which the country finds itself since October 2014.

Anyone who spent more than four weeks in Cameroon should be vaccinated before leaving the country.

The vaccine is available at airports and costs 1000 FCFA.

The press release by the Minister makes no restriction on the age of those involved.

This is just an application of the requirements of the World Health Organization (WHO) who announced in April that Cameroon, as Syria and Pakistan, was a country at risk for what is known as the wild polio-virus.

We recall that since October, 2013, eight cases of polio have been reported on the Cameroonian territory and according WHO, this figure places the country in a situation of the epidemic in so far as a case exposes 200 subjects in the entourage.

So far, the vaccine against yellow fever was only payable in the airports of Cameroon.
