The minister of Scientific Research and Innovation (MINRESI), Madeleine Tchuinté, warmly received the CEO of the French company Société Française des Réactifs et d’Instruments (SFRI), Gille Mougin in Yaoundé to discuss the project of constructing a medical unit for Hematology and Biochemistry in Cameroon.

The meeting with the French company, specializing in the analysis of human biology, was held on Wednesday at the Ministry of Scientific Reasearch and Innovation.

The project is the product of a partnership between the government of Cameroon and France. The signed contract with government gives the Institute of Medical Research and the school of medicinal plant research (IMPM) the opportunity to have a research facility under the supervision of MINRESI, to carry out this important project in partnership with the SFRI.

According to the CEO of SFRI, this major project for Cameroon could improve biology by providing a local production of reagents that are used for routine analysis and tests practiced every day in laboratories of the country. He disclosed that the advantage of implementing this medical unit is to allow IMPM autonomy of the country to bring an improvement in the quality of care.

“We can also export these products to neighbouring countries. The plant will start germinating by December," reassured Gille Mougin.

The importance of IMPM-SFRI partnership is the sharing of skills and resources to enhance research activities and the establishment of a reagent manufacturing facility that can meet the national demand at both the sub-regional and regional levels. There is also the creation of jobs and wealth with this project.

“The whole structure is therefore used for the implementation and funding has already gone underway”, said Pr. Jean Louis Essame Oyono, Director of IMPM.

This structure has the task of ensuring the development of research in all medical disciplines to improve health conditions, a better knowledge of the pathological aspects, therapeutic, preventive and nutrition of the people.
