Reference hospital of Sangmelima, a jewel in the heart of the forest

The General layout of blocks responds primarily to the sake of functionality. The location of each entity was chosen to shorten up the route of personnel and the sick and ensure upon entry, the reading of the sign post while facilitating the orientation.

Links with service levels are through ramps and staircases, to avoid mechanical facilities whose cost and operating expense are high. The premises of services and spaces allocated to the attendants are on two levels of successive gardens following the natural land slope.

As for the administrative offices and research (laboratories), they are on the floor. Four main entrances are provided for the courtyard: access to consultations; access to emergencies; access to hospitalization; access to maternity.

Additional access for emergencies (ambulances) is housed. As for the technical platform, the technical plateau has a central position. At the centre of the project, between accommodation and emergencies are the surgical and clinical diagnosis. This central position allows them to minimize the flow and avoid crosses between emergencies and accommodation.

In addition, two twin main wings bring together all of the accommodation programmes. Maternity-obstetrics wing is twinned with the North-South-oriented paediatric wing. The medical-surgical wing, oriented Southeast and Northwest.

Circulations are specific to each wing of three units for a free passage of 1.85 metres, with clearance before the reception areas, areas of care and vertical circulations (ramps and stairs).

Emergencies directly accessible from the entry without passing through the hospital take account of the three main types of emergencies: General, Pediatric and gynecological care with rehydration room for children.

The hospital service during the day with four-bed is integrated to emergencies and may thus serve as a resuscitation room. Share and other emergencies are directly accessible to the radio and operating room.

Main gallery serving staff is four units of passage for a clearance of 2.75 metres. In the middle of each wing are sanitary and common services. The nursing staff is disposed at the end of each wing.

The spaces for maternity (neonatology and newborn care) care are integrated to the maternity wing. Adult intensive care are arranged between the wing of surgery and the surgical suite.
