Recent cholera epidemic in CMR, over 150 dead

The cholera epidemic in recent months particularly in the northern part of Cameroon, has already resulted in the deaths of more than 150 people.

According to the Ministry of public health, Adamawa and Northern regions are also affected by the epidemic, the region of the far north remains the main focus of the disease, with more than 115 deaths on 2188 reported cases.

"It is likely that the number of deaths is more than what has been documented, because the figures are exclusively drawn from cases in hospitals and health centres," said the Ministry of health.

For the moment, the southern part is spared from the epidemic of cholera, which leads health officials to increase awareness campaigns, including in schools and poor neighborhoods.

"We think that if people strictly observe hygienic conditions, we can quickly curtail the epidemic. However, we must concede that the situation in the northern part is more complicated with displacements of poeple and particularly the influx of Nigerian refugees who are fleeing abuses of the terrorist sect Boko Haram ", noted the Minister of public health.
