Polio Vaccine Obligatory for All Cameroon Travellers

The Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda, has recommended to anyone taking a trip abroad, his/her age notwithstanding, to be vaccinated against poliomyelitis by receiving two drops of the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) in the mouth.

The vaccination which is done in International Vaccination Centres (IVC) and Border Health Posts (BHP) at the cost of FCFA 1,000 should be recorded in the yellow-coloured international vaccination booklet and may be required at the border checks of the country of origin, says the release issued on June 25.

More so, the same recommendation applies to anyone who has sojourned at least four weeks in Cameroon, upon return to his/her country. The release justifies that the measure is taken to avoid the spread of the polio virus out of the country since Cameroon is in a situation of polio epidemic since October 2013.
