Kidney failure: 'Hardware kits are already available'

The retrieved hardware kits marks the end of the ordeal for many patients with kidney failure.

The hardware kits used for their treatment which went missing for more than a week has just reappeared.

This was announced by the Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda, over the 5pm newscast on Crtv Radio on Thursday, August 20, 2015. Approximately 28 000 kits have been sent to the General Hospitals in Yaoundé and Douala.

"For this year, we ordered a little more than 30 000 dialysis kits that were overdue in maritime traffic. Also I want to congratulate and encourage the patients first, for their solidarity because dialysis centers had to transfer the sick. The patients have not been very much noisy as can be noticed elsewhere. They are reassured that with nearly 28 000 kits, their problems will be resolved", said André Mama Fouda.

The Minister recalled that “the head of state, after the guidelines of 2007, requested that all the provisions should be taken in order to support Cameroonians suffering from renal failure.”

Haemodialysis centers will thus be established across the country. They will be added to the centers which already exist in Douala and Yaoundé. We have surpassed the 90 dialysis service generators, which must be supplied with kits.

The absence of these, cancelled almost all hemodialysis sessions planned. Consequently, many patients could not be supported adequately. Some patients have had to settle for a single weekly session instead of the two.
