Observations at the Douala General Hospital has debunked rumours that stated the discontinuation of hemodialysis.
Reporters who visited the hemodialysis centre at the Douala General hospital on August 18, 2015, stated that the reportage, by some media houses, on the centre that opened in 1990 is at a standstill and queues of unsatisfied patients lengthened, were false. First stop was the administration.
In the office of Pr. Eugène Belley-Priso, Director-general of the Douala General Hospital, he ensured that the centre has not experienced interruptions. To prove, he invited the team of journalists, who came fishing for information, to visit the hemodialysis centre.
Once in the sterile rooms, it was noticed that more than 20 generators were attached to the renal switch of patients, who threw curious glances at the journalists. The only noise at the places were the machines as well as the sound from a distant radio which disturbed the mandatory silence of the place. And for the medical personnel, it was a misunderstanding around the supposed work stoppage. "Falsehoods", noted the CEO.
Pr. Belley-Priso clarified the situation when he was questioned. It has never been a question of cessation of service but instead, of reprogramming meetings in the interests of management of stocks of consumables needed for hemodialysis to avoid a total break.
Consumables which were in the form of kits contained twenty elements like filters, artificial kidneys, bicarbonate, acid concentrates. Also, dialysis resumed their normal pace since yesterday, because a replaced equipment was provided. This was an assurance given by Dr Marie Patrice Halle, Chief hemodialysis.
