Gov't launches Ebola vaccination campaign

The Minister of Public health and the systems coordinator of the United Nations held a press conference on the subject of Ebola virus. He stressed the reason why it is important to prevent the canker because of the journey of some citizens to Equatorial Guinea for the Africa Cup of Nations. This is the more reason why the ministry of public health has offer to reinforce the vaccination campaigns against the wild poliovirus and Ebola.

During a press conference jointly organized by Minsanté and the systems of the United Nations, André Mama Fouda explained that taking into consideration its geographical position and porosity of the borders, Cameroon was classified as a country that can be at risk to these endemics and thus profits from an international support of the systems of the United Nations for the development of an operational plan for the preparation of possible response against the epidemic.

Kye-Ossi was selected as a starting point because of its geographical location which is at the crossroad of the three countries: Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea.

Hence could be considered as a door of penetration of this epidemic. The public awareness campaign puts a point of honor on communication, where the media is expected to inform and educate the public in order to reduce to the minimum the risks.

The Ebola virus is not the only problem of public health, noted Mama Fouda, it is a threat against the economy and development because it is very devastating.

Since March 21, 2014, 21,700 cases were detected in the countries where the disease broke out with 8,645 deaths recorded. Fortunately for us, the country has remained up to date free from it, but the danger continues.

As for the polio, nine cases were detected in the country in 2014. The objective of the government is to eradicate it by the end of the year of 2015.

This has led to the multiplication of vaccination and sensitizing campaigns which opened at Kye-Ossi to end on February 5.
