Five-day workshop organised by the National Veterinary Laboratory

Representatives of the Veterinary Centres and Head of Veterinary services from the Far-North, North and Adamawa regions are refreshing their skills on how to keep the rabies phenomenon at bay.

The veterinarians are taking part in a five-day training to better pre-empt an outburst of the deadly disease spread by infected pets like dogs, cats and monkeys.

They are also picking up communication skills to sensitize the local population in their respective areas on the need to get their pest vaccinated.

Officials of the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries from the respective regions contain that rabies is a problem that urgent attention.

During the refresher course, the experts and consultants in the Veterinary sector will elaborate practical ways of taking samples from animals for laboratory diagnosis.

A multi sectorial approach will been put in place to effectively eradicate rabies in these parts of the country.

The North Regional Delegate of Livestock Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Garga Gone took the opportunity to announce a vaccination campaign against rabies next month.

As first aid measure, veterinary doctors advice victims of dogs, cats or monkeys bite to wash the wound immediately with soap and rush to the nearest Health Centre for treatment.
