Director of Yaounde General Hospital evacuated to Paris for treatment

It’s been over two weeks that Élie Claude Ndam Njitoyap the Director of the Yaounde General Hospital went to Paris in France. After many requests made to the Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda finally authorized the evacuation of the latter.

Mutations daily newspaper edition of April 13, 2016, states that “the reasons for the evacuation of the DG of the Yaounde General Hospital to France continues to create controversy.” But his absence in no way altered the pace of work in the hospital. “Since his evacuation to Paris, the interim is ensured by the head of the technical and medical division of the hospital,” said a source.

In fact before leaving the country, the Director of the General Hospital of Yaounde was hospitalized in the high standing of the health institution service during a week in March. “He had become irregular in his office since the beginning of March. It was found that he came to work at most three times a week and was out of the hospital the rest of the time,” says the source.

Currently the subject on lips of everyone at the hospital is his medical evacuation that some consider as “late“. “It’s been almost six months since he requested a medical evacuation, but the Minister of Health had hesitated to sign. It took another intervention for him to leave the country, “reports a source.

In 2015, Elie Claude Ndam Njitoyap was continually absent at some board meetings. His repeated absences had come to be identified. For some people it was “a headlong rush.” Charles Etoundi as the President of that Council had repeatedly requested that the Director should explain himself on his management of the health facility. He had brandished the argument of his health.

It should be noted that according to Mutations, the health status of Elie Claude Ndam Njitoyap is stable. His return to Yaounde is scheduled for this week.
