Golf star, Odoh relishes victory in Cameroon

Former Nigeria number one, Oche Odoh, has described his defence of the Cameroon International Open title at the Yaounde Golf Club as a major boost for his career.

Speaking with pganigeria.com recently, he said the victory helped ascertain that all the works he has been putting into his game are beginning to pay off.

“It was a very emotional win for me, the first player to win the event back-to-back and that is a big boost for my confidence,” he said.
He shot 289, one over par at the Yaounde Golf Club to claim the 15, 000 Euros at the event.

“I feel great, especially given that most Nigerian players didn’t do so well at the event this year; only two players made the top-ten finish, that was enough to discourage me, but I had to be strong to make that win,” he said.

Cameroon’s new kid sensation, Isa Nlareb, picked the runner up trophy with three shots adrift of Odoh while long time best player, Desire Ebela, finished in third place.

Ghana’s Emos Korblah, 2013 winner of the Cameroon International Open Championship, finished in seventh place while Marcus Elisha from IBB International Golf and Country Club was the second Nigerian on the log at 10th position.

This year’s edition was the sixth and Nigerian players have won four of the entire editions so far with Oche making a double.
Other winners are late Ali Abdullahi who won the inaugural edition and Gboyega Oyebanji; winner of the second edition in 2011.
