Cameroon victory, career boost –Odoh

Former Nigeria number one, Oche Odoh, has described his defense of the Cameroon International Open title at the Yaounde Golf Club on May 9 as a major boost for his career.

Odoh shot 289, one over par to claim the 15,000 Euros prize at the event. “It was a very emotional win for me as the first player to win the event back-to-back,” Odoh said.

“Only two Nigerian players made the top-ten finish and that was enough to discourage me, but I had to be strong to make that win,” he added.

Cameroon’s new kid sensation, Isa Nlareb, picked the runner up trophy with three shots adrift of Odoh while long-time best player, Desire Ebela, finished in third place.

Ghana’s Emos Korblah, 2013 winner of the Cameroon International Open Championship, finished in seventh place while Odoh’s compatriot, Marcus Elisha from IBB International Golf and Country Club, finished at 10th position.

Nigerian players have won four of the entire six editions so far with Odoh making a double. Other winners are late Ali Abdullahi, who won the inaugural edition in 2010 and Gboyega Oyebanji who won the next year.
