FECAFOOT: Normalisation Committee prepares a way forward

The President of the Normalisation Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation has convened a meeting with members to discuss the FECAFOOT crisis.

During the meeting, Professor Joseph Owona acknowledged receiving a letter from the World Football governing body, FIFA, extending their mandate to 23rd March 2015.

He also acknowledged the decision of the Court of Arbitration for sports that annulled the decisions of the FECAFOOT general assembly of 30th October 2014 that validated the statutes of the electoral codes.

This decision led to the subsequent cancellation of the FECAFOOT elections which was initially scheduled to take place on the 28th of February 2015.

Relating to the decision of the court, the normalisation committee president indicated that the problem dates back to 2013 when the elections that took place was annulled in 9 out of 10 regions.

The Court of Arbitration for sports is however blaming the committee for a poor elected assembly that validated the text.

Professor Owona, however says that, it is not the fault of FECAFOOT because FIFA recognised the 2013 assembly, he added that electoral litigations are not within the competences of the Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration.

“The FIFA text obliges us to respect these instructions irrespective of the problem at hand as it is FIFA that governs world football,” he said.

He indicated that the executive committee of FIFA has already congratulated the Normalisation committee for the work done because it respects FIFA's norms and standards.

Apart from other matters discussed, the meeting also served as a platform for the committee and her members to redefine the functions of the federation, the Cameroon Sports and Olympic Committee and Court of Arbitration for Sports during the extension period.

It is worth noting that, this is the first meeting the committee has held since the recent FIFA decision extending the mandate of the committee to 23rd March 2015.
