Baba Danpullo keeps 30% of Vietel

Buisness tycoon Baba Ahmadou Danpullo has succeeded to conserve one third of Vietel Cameroon, ending a long quarrel that has prevented Cameroon’s third mobile telephone provider from beginning operations.

Vietel dropped demands for a reduction of shares or an additional investments from Danpullo’s Bestinver Cameroon (Bestcam) after meetings in Yaounde and Hanoi over the past weeks.

A deal reached between Bescam and the Vietnamese state-run company also retained Danpullo as chairman of Vietel Cameroon and appointed two of his protégés as deputy directors.

The company has now admitted it will be unable to begin operations by the end of March and set September as the new date to begin providing services.

Vietel was initially expected to unroll the country’s first 3G network in January 2014 but delayed operations until end of March pending the completion of technical installations.
