Limbe Fisheries Institute to open the doors

The pioneer Director is expected as a matter of emergency, to open the doors of the institute whose infrastructure is already in place.

The stakes are high as the new management of the Limbe Nautical Arts and Fisheries Institute prepares to take over. “I know the challenges are enormous as I am the first Director but I know I will surmount them by God’s will coupled with my professional background.” This was the reaction of Etah Collins Ayuk, maiden Director of the Limbe Nautical Arts and Fisheries Institute.

This is sequel to a Presidential degree of November 16, 2015 appointing Dr Taïga, the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industry, Etah Collins Ayuk and Chiawah Ebonkeng Cecilia, as the Board Chairman, Director and Deputy Director of the Institute respectively.
Construction of the Limbe-based institute in the South West Region that was created by President Biya on August 12, 2015 completed since 2012. Etah Collins Ayuk says the new management will soon concert to unfold the line of activity. The career veterinarian, a quality assurance expert and a fisheries scientist now has the task to upgrade industrial, artisanal maritime, continental or in-land and aquaculture fishing resources the region baost .

During his 15 years of practice, Etah Collins Ayuk served in positions as Provincial Chief of Fisheries and Animal Production for the South West, Divisional Delegate of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries for Sanaga Maritime and Sub-Director of Monitoring, Control and Surveillance of Fisheries Activities in the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industry. He trained as Veterinary Doctor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He also read Food Production Management in the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, before moving to Pukyong National University, Busan, South Korea where he received courses in Fisheries Science.

Figures from the South West Regional Delegation of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries indicate that 4.563 tons of fish were caught in regional waters in 2014. Some 8.494 persons are employed in the sector, generating FCFA 263.4 billion in 2014 with FCFA 5 billion reportedly sent into State coffers. The challenge of the new team is to harness the sector, creating sustainable wealth for the growth of the country.
