Family mistakenly withdraws wrong corpse from morgue

Total confusion and frustration reigned at the Logbaba District Hospital Mortuary on August 6th over the corpse of a three-year-old girl.

The Nyamben family members were shocked when they were presented with the corpse of a six-year-old girl.

According to the mortuary attendant, a family called the Ngono were on Friday, July 25th handed a different corpse (that of the three-year old girl) which they reportedly conveyed and buried.

The Nyamben family members, rejecting the corpse of the 6-year-old girl, raised an alarm when the corpse of their daughter could not be found.

Confusion over the rejection of the oversized corpse drew the attention of the hospital’s Chief Medical Doctor, Charles Sofeu, who immediately imputed to a “technical error” by the mortuary attendant.

The mortuary attendant called the telephone numbers of a supposed Ngono family member just to be embarrassed when an unknown man, answering from Bamenda, declined knowing anything about the corpse.

During his call to the second telephone number, another unknown man in Monatélé testified he was not of the Ngono family and has never had any corpse in Logbaba, Douala. Investigations have been opened while hoping the Ngono family will give an explanation regarding the corpse.
