Clinton N’Jie agrees to join Olympic Marseille on loan

No, this isn’t Deja Vu. We’ve talked about this before. Several times. The continental transfer window closes on Wednesday at 6PM GMT, and while Tottenham have been very active the last few days with sales, there is still that little piece of business that has dragged on over the last several weeks involving Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Clinton N’Jie. It finally seems that there is light at the end of the tunnel on this deal.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, Clinton N’Jie has agreed to join Olympic Marseille on a season long loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Translated, it’s about what we expect at this stage. Clinton agreed to terms and is heading to Marseille to finalize his move on Deadline Day. The deal appears to have a €7m (£6m) option to purchase at the end of the deal. This will open the door for Georges-Kevin N’Koudou to finally sign with Tottenham Hotspur for a reported fee of €11m (£9.4m).

Marseille have been an absolute mess this offseason. A change in ownership that sees Frank McCourt (Yes, THAT Frank McCourt, the one who almost bought Tottenham) in charge has brought some form of stability to the French side. Whether or not that lasts remains to be seen, but that means little to Spurs supporters, who simply want this transfer saga come to an end.

I’m a little upset at the terms here. Clinton didn’t even get a full healthy season at White Hart Lane and it now seems that his time is done. If he performs well for OM, then they will almost certainly exercise that option to buy. It’s hard to know what he could have done if he stayed healthy, and now we’ll probably never get the answer to that question.

Barring anything insane happening on Deadline Day, it looks as though the Clinton / N’Koudou swap will finally happen.
