Spanish and European football giants, FC Barcelona, have announced the signing of Cameroon-born French international, Samuel Umtiti.

The 22-year-old center-back was signed for a fee of £21 million pounds on a five-year deal from French side, Lyon.

After signing on Thursday, the club shared pictures of Umtiti posing for the traditional photo outside the club offices with the famous crest behind him. After posing in front of the badge, the young French player spoke for the first time as a Barcelona player.

"I hope to be a great success at Barcelona. I will work very hard to win the confidence of the coaching staff. It's a happy day for me."

Samuel Umtiti said more than once that this was “a dream come true” whilst also revealing his ambition: “I hope to be a great success at Barcelona. I will work very hard to win the confidence of the coaching staff. It’s a happy day for me,” he said.

“I am at the most important club in the world. I am very happy to be here and share a dressing room with world class players. I am a hard-working, unfussy player who has very clear objectives,” he added.

Umtiti, who was part of the French team that was beaten by Portugal in the Euro 2016 final, was born in the Cameroonian capital Yaounde on November 14, 1993. He has represented the French national team at all youth levels between 2009 and 2014.

He began his professional career with Lyon in 2012, winning the Coupe de France and Trophy of Champions that year. He totalled 170 games with five goals before his current move.
