Eric Djemba-Djemba released by club without ever playing

The Cameroonian midfielder has been released by Persebaya Surabaya, after Indonesian League is suspended.

Manchester United's legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson did not always get it right. Over the years he brought in the odd stinker to Old Trafford.

Bebe, Juan Sebastian Veron, Kleberson and of course, Eric Djemba-Djemba.

The Cameroonian had the odd moment for the club but all in all he was a flop at Manchester United. Signed from Nantes for a fee reported by Sky Sports to be in the region of £3.5 million he never made the grade and was sold for a loss to Aston Villa two years later.

Since then he has had a journeyman's career - playing in Qatar, Denmark, Israel, Serbia and popping up in Scottish football last term for a very forgettable stint with St Mirren.

He recently spent a short period of time with Chennayin FC in the Indian Super League before joining Indonesian club Persebaya Surabaya in January. The 34-year-old is however a free agent once again.

It was confirmed yesterday, as reported by Indonesian site Merdeka, that Djemba-Djemba has been released from his contract at the club - without playing a single game for the club.

They claim he has been struggling with injury throughout his time at the club and that Persebaya have released him after the Football Association of Indonesia ruled that Persebaya could not play in the Indonesian League, which has seen the association itself suspended by the Indonesian government and the league postponed since the 8th April.

Djemba-Djemba has now reportedly returned to France to consider the next move in his journeyman career.
