West Ham to bid for Stephane Mbia

West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Sevilla midfielder Stephane Mbia on a free transfer.

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham will make a summer bid to sign Sevilla midfielder Stephane Mbia - but face competition from Crystal Palace.

The Hammers have Alex Song on loan from Barcelona, but the Cameroon international is unlikely to remain at the club permanently - leaving West Ham to consider alternatives.

It now seems that Song's replacement could be his former international team-mate Stephane Mbia, who is currently playing in Spain with Sevilla.

The 28-year-old, formerly of Rennes and Marseille, has already had a spell in English football with Queens Park Rangers, but only played one season for the West Londoners before joining Sevilla in 2013.

Mbia is out of contract this summer, meaning he will be able to join any club on a free transfer in July - and it's believed that West Ham are one of the clubs trying to hand him a return to the Premier League.

However, it seems that West Ham aren't even the only London-based team in the race to sign Mbia, with the Daily Mail also noting that Crystal Palace are also interested in his signature.

The powerful Cameroonian can play in holding midfield and at centre back, and his versatility could make him a hot commodity in the transfer market this summer - especially considering that he will be available on a free transfer.
