Everton - Eto’o has already earned a new contract

33-year-old Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o has impressed since moving to Goodison Park this summer. Now the Daily Mirror report he will already be given a new contract by manager Roberto Martinez.

Eto’o was hunted by cross-city Merseyside rivals Liverpool in the transfer window following his release from London club Chelsea but he elected to move to Everton and in his 5 Premier League appearances since has scored 3 goals.

Roberto Martinez has been delighted with his form and said about the clause in his contract: “I think it’s just natural he’ll get another year. The option for a second year is based on number of games played so it will come automatically.”

Eto’o has had a phenomenal career, beginning his professional life with Spanish giants Real Madrid before a number of loan spells to learn his trade with regular football.

He moved on to Mallorca under the iconic Luis Aragonés before earning a massive move to Catalan outfit Barcelona where he played 145 La Liga games, scoring 108 goals with 3 league titles won as well as 2 UEFA Champions Leagues. Eto’o was then given the chance to move to Italy with Inter Milan, with another Champions League title secured and 33 goals in 67 Serie A games.

To add to this he become the highest paid player in the world when Russian side Anzhi gave him a massive contract between 2011-2013.

Chelsea would offer Eto’o his Premier League opportunity last season as he played 21 matches in the league with 9 goals scored. Despite José Mourinho calling him old the 118 capped Cameroon international played 34 times in all competitions before his release at the end of the campaign. Now he is with Everton and Martinez commented on him: “All I want is for him to enjoy his football and convey the incredible winning mentality he has to the rest of the team. But I always thought his period at Everton would be a minimum of two years, because the option reflects that. He could trigger the clause very soon, the way he’s playing. But the clause is not in my mind, his mind, he’s happy playing for Everton, enjoying his day to day work”.
