Junior Lionesses will play against Ethiopia in the first Leg of the first qualifying round of the 2016 U-20 Women’s World Cup at the Amadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé.

Even though training sessions were precarious and demanded hardwork, it is hoped that the junior Lionesses will triumph when they face Ethiopia’s Mfandena on Sunday. The last time the junior Lionesses participated in this competition dates back to 2012.

To prepare the team, junior Lionesses were treated to a dozen friendly matches against local teams. These matches allowed them to evaluate every aspect of the preparation.

The list of the 18 players to take part in the match will be announced tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Ethiopians arrived in Cameroon yesterday ahead of the game.

Charles Kamdem, junior Lionesses coach, remains optimistic about the game. For him, he is certain they will succeed.

"We have selected and trained the players. Whatever the outcome against Ethiopia, we know that the girls will learn something from it,” Charles Kamdem told CT.

He added that during the course of the month, funds were not readily available but he tried to make every effort to get a cohesive group. "We must prepare the next generation".

A first win against Ethiopia on Sunday would take them to the second qualifying round. But for advocates of women's football, the question is whether the juniors will be able to emulate their seniors to make history to better build their future.
