Tiko United FC poised for relegation

By virtue of their 2-1 loss away to Feutcheu FC and AS Etoa Meki win away to Panthere Security, Tiko United are doom for relegation from League 2, and will now have their last chance of survival on the final day of the season when they tale on Aigle Royal of Menoua.

When Tiko United were rescued last year by the Normalization Committee’s decision to increased teams in League 2 to 18, most people thought they have a decent chance to stay up. They didn't have the strongest squad, but they started the League on a good foot which saw them named “Born Again Tiko”.

Their formula looked like a winning one from the start, and they looked even more like staying up by the end of the summer. The signing of young talented players who were full of the zeal to play and make a name in football saw many supporters of the Smaba boys having nostalgic feelings of the 2009 Elite I Championship that saw the team emerged Champs.

However, things started to go bad when the management of the team could not meet up with the financial demands of the players. Things later on got worst when the team could not boast of a complete 18 or 16 man squad in their away games.

Throughout the campaign, the supporters’ hopes were still high as they believed the coaching bench could turn things around. Unfortunately for them, things turn sour when they could not beat a 13-man squad Ngoketounja FC of Ndop that were also fighting relegation at the Tiko Town Green Stadium.

The Samba Boys will be expected to play their best football and dance their best Samba dance when they take on fourth place and League One aspirants, Aigle Royal of Menoua in Tiko on the last day of play.

They will also pray that Achille FC and AS Etoa Ebeki, both playing at home, should lost in their last games against 9th place Panthere Security and 12th place Ngaoundere University respectively.

However, Achille FC and AS Etoa Ebeki will be playing teams that have nothing to lose or gain as they are both mid table teams.

Meanwhile, Ngoketounja FC 1-0 win at home against Dynamic of Buea, assured their stay in League 2.

Dragon FC that are currently first on the log, have qualified for the country’s top level football next year. Meanwhile, Kohi club of Maroua and Sahel FC are both relegated and will be waiting for another two clubs to join them to make it four.

Tiko United founded in the early 1960s as C.D.C Tiko, won the Cameroon Première Division for the first time in its history inn 2009 and a place in CAF Champions League in 2010.
