Song: I made a mistake, I cost us the World Cup!

Alex Song admitted to reporters at Cameroon’s training session on Saturday that he ruined the ‘beautiful game’ after elbowing Mario Mandzukic in the back in their 4-0 loss to Croatia in their second Group A, 2014 FIFA World Cup match last Wednesday.

Song was shown a straight red card for his actions, and finally he has admitted to making a mistake and costing his country the chance of progressing into the knockout stages of the World Cup.

When Song was sent from the field Cameroon were only trailing 1-0, but down to ten men in the second half and throwing players forward in search of an equaliser, they left themselves exposed at the back and they were duly punished by Croatia.

Song is now seeking forgiveness from his teammates and followers of the beautiful game.

“I made a big mistake, a blunder that cost us three points,” said Song.

“So I wanted to ask forgiveness to all those who saw the incident, because it was not like me to do something like that.

“I apologise to my teammates, what I did has nothing to do with football.

“I'm sure it shocked many people.

“It is not what we want to see in football today, it should be a beautiful game.”

Cameroon will play Brazil in their last group game on Monday, 23 June and they will be looking to restore some African pride.
