Roma may be closing in on Eto'o

This week could be pivotal in deciding the future of Samuel Eto'o and Roma seem to be in pole position to secure his signature.

Having left Chelsea, Samuel Eto'o is searching for a new club and a return to Italy is widely suggested to be the most likely scenario.

After his relationship with Jose Mourinho became untenable, Eto'o was let go by Chelsea, prompting a number of teams to consider pouncing for him as a free agent.

According to the latest reports in Italy, Eto'o has already received several offers but none of them have tempted the Cameroon international.

Transfer guru Alfredo Pedullà writes on his blog that Eto'o wants to stay in Europe and is probably looking for a return to Italy, where he won the treble with Inter in 2010.

The experienced marksman is said to be waiting for a meeting with Roma, which should take place later in the week, and could decide his next club.

Pedullà believes that Eto'o is willing to accept a reduced pay packet compared to last year in order to make the switch to Roma because he is so keen on playing for the Lupi, who are his first choice suitor.

Roma are in the market for a reliable marksman after a superb Serie A campaign that saw them finish second without a dedicated goal-getter.

The Giallorossi have been frequently linked to Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, but it seems that they may have given up on trying to lure the in-demand Belgian.
