Since the early hours of Tuesday, September 2 2014, the new-look Volker Finke team of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are in their training base at the CAF Excellence Centre in Mbankomo, outskirt of Yaounde, Cameroon.
The Volker Finke ‘new squad’ and new set of technical officials are in camp to begin preparing Cameroon for qualifiers for the AFCON 2015 to be hosted by Morocco.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will on Saturday, September 6 2014 take on the Leopards of the DRC in Lubumbashi and four days after, welcome the Elephants of Ivory Coast in Yaounde.
A good number of the 25-man team invited by the German-born trainer for Cameroon have answered present. These include; Pierre Abogo, Brice Nlate, Guy Zock, Gérôme Guihoata, Salli Edgar, Georges Constant Mandjeck, Franck Kom, Franck Etoundi, Léonard Kweuke, Marc Kibong, Raoul Cédric Loé, Clinton Njie, Landry Nguemo, Cédric Djeugoué, Enoh Eyong Tarkang, Benjamin Moukandjo, Vincent Aboubakar, Nicolas Nkoulou and Stéphane Mbia.
The other players expected in camp in the hours ahead include; Guy-Roland Ndy-Assembé, Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, Joseph Fabrice Ondoa Ebogo and Franck Bagnack. The last two are with the Under 20 Lions, who went to South Africa for a qualifier against their South African counterpart for the Under 20 AFCON due for Senegal. Information from Durban, South Africa have it that Cameroon lost 0-1 and have failed to pick a qualification ticket to Senegal.
However, the only worry is the absence of Joël Matip of Schalke 04 in Germany, Jean-Marie Dongou Tsafack of FC Bacelona and Gaetang Bong who have not yielded to the invitation of Volker Finke.
Prior to Tuesday’s take off of the training camp, head coach, Volker Finke in a Monday, September 1 2014 Press Conference at the FECAFOOT Headquarter in Yaounde introduced his new collaborators to the press and the public, including French born Physiotherapist, with whom he was at the Brazil rendez-vous 2014, Christophe Manouvrier.
In another development, Pierre Achille Webo Kwamou is another player from the 2014 disgraceful team from Cameroon at the world in Brazil to resign from the national team. Webo announced his resignation on his twitter page, while thanking all those with whom he has worked in the national team for the past 11 years of his stay.
