Landry Nguemo withdraws from squad

Cameroon have landed in Lubumbashi on Thursday night without midfielder Landry Nguemo, ahead of their Group D opener of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2015 qualifiers against DR Congo at the TP Mazembe Stadium on Saturday.

A free agent since his contract with Bordeaux ran out last July, the 28-year old is yet to find a club this season and headed back to France to resume talks with outfits interested in his services.

“Landry Nguemo will not travel with the team. The player is going back to France to hold talks with French clubs. He is not insured and the coach didn’t want to take any chance,” the Team Press officer, Vincent De Paul Atangana announced on Thursday.

Nguemo is the fourth player from the initial squad to withdraw, after Joël Matip, Gaëtan Bong and Jean-Marie Dongou, who have not honoured their call-ups for various reasons and have been replaced by Nlate Ekongolo, Franck Kom and Bana Moussa respectively.

The Indomitable Lions will then host Côte d’Ivoire in Yaoundé on Wednesday, in matchday 2 of those qualifiers.
