Kumba I Council inter-quarters football tournament kicks off

An inter quarter football tournament organized by the Kumba I council has kicked off. The tournament kicked off recently at the Government Practicing School field Kumba town. The FCFA 1 million trophy will see some 12 teams compete against each other for a duration of one month.

The launching ceremony was attended by lovers of football in the municipality and the population of Kumba as a whole.

The mayor, Abel Ebako Ndoh called on all the players to exercise a spirit of fair play during the tournament. He further reminded them the competition was not only meant for money but also to keep the youth occupied during the holidays and also to identify hidden football talents.

The competition, according to members of the organising committee, will see the two finalists compete with their mates in Kumba II and III where there will be the grand finale.

According to the mayor, the tournament falls in line with the objectives of the council to provide social activities and entertainment to the population especially the youth.

The amount donated by the council, according to him, will increase progressively as the tournament continues its subsequent editions. He further disclosed that Kumba I council will together with the other councils, fight to ensure that talented players are regrouped together so that a solid football team is created in Kumba. He also assured that good players will gain the opportunity to travel abroad or sign with big football teams in the country.

Apart from football, the Mayor also disclosed that the council has recruited some 40 students for holiday jobs, a move which is aimed at keeping the occupied during this holiday period while they also raise income to provide for their needs when schools resume.
