Hiddink trying to convince Eto'o into Ajax move

Guus Hiddink is reportedly trying to convince Samuel Eto'o to come and play in Holland with Ajax.

Samuel Eto'o left Chelsea this summer at the end of his one-year spell at Stamford Bridge. The former Inter Milan and Barcelona striker had a rough time in London. While he scored some very important goals for Chelsea his relationship with Jose Mourinho was always called into question - especially when Mourinho questioned the veteran's age.

But he is still a wanted commodity, with the likes of Sunderland said to be checking him out, as well as teams in Italy.

However he could be set for a shock move to Dutch giants Ajax. The club's sporting director Marc Overmars has confirmed the club are in talks with the Cameroonian legend in order to convince him to play in the Eredivisie:

"Samuel seemed very hungry to play for Ajax. He is fit and has a great drive to succeed once again. We don't want to block the growing process of our talents like [Arkadiusz] Milik and [Richairo] Zivkovic, but if it is possible to sign a world class player like Eto'o, then why not? It will be fantastic."

And now it is reported that a former Chelsea boss, and Eto'o's former coach at Anzhi Makhachkala, Guus Hiddink, is trying to convince him that the Amsterdam ArenA is the place to be.

A report this morning claims that Ajax are trying to use Hiddink and his former Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard to convince him that his best choice would be to ply his trade with Ajax next season.

Eto'o has also been invited to the Ajax v Vitesse game on Sunday, during a meeting with Overmars and CEO Michael Kinsbergen in Paris on Thursday.

Hiddink and Eto'o had a great relationship during their time in Russia and the ex-Chelsea boss will be hoping to convince the striker to come and play in his homeland - despite Hiddink never having played for or managed the side in his long career.
