Former Lions rescue National Veteran Football Competition from disgrace

Thanks to the intervention of former Indomitable Lions player, Victor Ndip Akem, National Veteran Football Competition (NVFC) was rescued from shame after three teams showed up for the finals of the 2014 edition.

During the finals that ended in Kumba recently, three teams showed up for the finals instead of two.

Kumba Veteran Social Football club that earlier qualified for the finals were shocked when they were met by two teams all gearing up to confront them. This was as a result of the semi finals match that pitted Victory Veteran Football club of Douala and Ancien Bonas from Yaounde following a discrepancy during their semi final match that ended prematurely.

According to Victory Veterans, they have always been scapegoats of victimisation in the competition.

On their part, Ancien Bonas claimed that the homologation committee which sat after the confusion on Saturday gave them all three points of the match by forfeiture; but late at night, they were informed that all the club presidents had a meeting and opted for a replay of the match in the morning of Sunday before staging the finals in the evening.

However, on Sunday morning, both clubs failed to show up for a replay of the semi finals leaving the officials with two teams ready to face the team from Kumba by Sunday evening.

In order to protect the image of Kumba, Kumba Veteran Social Football club left the field for both teams to play but this decision was rejected by Victory Veterans of Douala.

Meanwhile, some Kumba football fans believe that this was a means to spoil the reputation of the Kumba town.

It was due to the intervention of former Lions player, Victor Ndip Akem that Victory Veteran Football finally bowed out.

The finals that pitted Kumba Veteran Social club and Ancien Bonas, saw the host beating the defending champs, Ancien Bonas 2-0 to one to clinch the trophy.

The tourney that saw the participation of over 10 teams from across Cameroon was staged under the theme “Veteran Football Uniting People Even in Diversity”.
