Finke sees his future with Cameroon

Following a disastrous 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign in Brazil, with three losses in as many games, Cameroon’s coach Volker Finke believes he has done his job and sees his future with the Indomitable Lions, with whom he is still under contract.

There was no miracle for the Cameroonians against the host country in Brasilia on Monday in their final Group A encounter, with a 1-4 defeat which added to their two opening stumbles against Mexico and Croatia.

And while Finke is disappointed with their winless run, he pointed out some positive aspects and did not want to jump to conclusions too quickly.

“Brazil deserve their victory, they had more opportunities than us. We had a good first half, similar to the one against Croatia. It was not bad, but we slowed down afterwards and started losing focus,” the German said to the media after the match.

“It is not time to take stock of our World Cup campaign or of African football in general yet. We must calm down and wait for the dust to settle.

“I have a contract, I feel that I have done my job and that’s the most important. Cameroon didn’t make it at the two previous African Cups of Nations finals and we were happy to qualify for the World Cup.

“We are disappointed to leave after failing to win a single game. It hurts. We need to focus on the next AFCON in Morocco.”
