Everton set for transfer talks with Spanish giants

There are reports coming out of Spain that Everton forward Samuel Eto’o could be leaving the club in the New Year when the transfer window reopens.

The Cameroon international only joined the Toffees in the summer after being released by fellow Premier League side Chelsea.

Mundo Deportivo have reported this morning that Valencia are interested in the Cameroonian and have plans to make a move for him in January. The Spanish side are pushing for a place in the Champions League after missing out on this season’s competition and therefore want to bring in reinforcements in the transfer window.

Valenica already have Spain internationals Alvaro Negredo, Paco Alcácer and Rodrigo at their disposal but they want to add Eto’o to form a formidable forward line. Valencia have recently had a large injection of cash after the takeover by Peter Lim and are looking to bring in more players in the next transfer windows.

Only a few weeks ago it was claimed that Roberto Martinez wanted to keep the Eto’o at the club by extending his contract. We covered the story that the former Inter Milan star was in line to be offered a contract extension until 2018 to remain with Everton, which ended speculation he'll be heading to the US.

There was been talk that Eto’o could be finishing his career by joining a MLS side but Everton are hoping that this will not be the case, and by tying him down on a longer deal they could prevent that. His current contract with the Premier League side expires in June 2016 and Everton feel they can get another two years out of the veteran after that.

However Eto’o may be tempted to finish his career in Spain by playing for one of La Liga’s big clubs. He had successful spells with Real Mallorca and then Barcelona where he made a name for himself in world football. In his time at the Catalan club he won countless honours including two Champions League titles.
