Eto's demands set West Ham thinking

Former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o has been offered to West Ham United but his wage demands of £100,000 per week appear to be dimming his chances of being with them, according to the Daily Mail.

The Cameroon international is available on a free transfer after his contract at Stamford Bridge expired.

Eto’o scored 9 times in 21 appearances in his only season at Chelsea and has also attracted the interest of Queens Park Rangers, who are also being deterred by his wage demands.

Italian champions Juventus have also expressed an interest in the former Inter Milan man after Alvaro Morata damaged his knee ligaments in his first training session since a £16 million move from Real Madrid.

Alternatives West Ham have been in the market for another striker as cover for Andy Carroll and are looking at several options. The Hammers are also considering a move for Portuguese striker Hugo Almeida, whose Besiktas contract expired this summer.

Allardyce however has reservations about the striker’s fitness, the side have kept tabs on him for the last two transfer windows but coupled with his wage demands of £2.5 million per year the club is reluctant to make a move.

The Londoners have also looked at Arsenal forward Joel Campbell who spent last season on loan at Olympiakos, however they face competition from AC Milan. The Costa Rican was impressed during the World Cup, playing all five games as his country lost in a penalty shoot-out to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

The Hammers have however moved closer to the signing of Carl Jenkinson from Arsenal on a season long loan.
