Eto'o switch an option

Tottenham are understood to have opened talks with former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o about a possible move to White Hart Lane.

The Cameroon international is on the lookout for a new club after being released by the Blues at the end of last season, and new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is convinced the experienced frontman would be a worthwhile addition to his squad.

Only Emmanuel Adebayor produced the goods in front of goal on a regular basis last term, after coming back into the first-team setup, having been frozen out under Andre Villas-Boas prior to his sacking.

Fellow forward Roberto Soldado failed to score the quantity expected of him following his big money move from Valencia, while Jermain Defoe was surprisingly sold to Toronto FC half way through the season.

It's hardly a shock therefore to see that Pochettino is interested in a proven marksman like Eto'o, who netted nine times for Chelsea last season while operating as only a bit part player.

The 33-year-old previously bagged over 100 goals for Barcelona during a five-year spell and he has already made it clear he is keen to carry on playing in the Premier League after getting a taste for it at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham have also been linked with the striker's signature in recent weeks, but their interest is believed to have cooled due to the player's £120,000-a-week salary demands.
