Enganamouit leads African charge for BBC Award

Cameroonian Gaelle Enganamouit has been shortlisted for the 2016 BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award including four other international female footballers.

The 23-year old Enganamouit, who features for reigning Swedish champions FC Rosengard in the Damallsvenskan League, was the 2015top goalscorer in the topflight league with 18 goals for Eskilstuna who finished second before transferring in November 2015.

Enganamouit becomes the second African to feature on this prestigious shortlist that saw Nigerian youngster and Arsenal Ladies FC forward Asisat Oshoala clinch the inaugural award last year.

Enganamouit will be competing for the annual award with the USA duo of Carli Lloyd and Becky Sauerbrunn are as well as Scotland midfielder Kim Little and France midfielder Amandine Henry.

The prolific forward, who has scored 10 goals for the Indomitable Lionesses in 43 appearances, inspired them to a historic round of 16 finish at last year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup in Canada in their debut appearance scoring an incredible hat-trick against Ecuador in a 6-0 rout, a result that saw the Canadian fans term her as ‘Freight Train’.

Enganamouit formerly played for Spartak Subotica in the SerbianFirst League where she is remembered for scoring the fastest goal in women's football history, after three seconds against FC Pozaverac. She has also featured in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Voting for this award is open until May 9 and the winner will be announced on May 24.
