Defense lapses forced me to play upfront- U20 keeper

Captain and Goalkeeper, Fabrice Ondoua, has said defensive lapses forced him to play far inside the field.

“When we talk of football, it is a collective effort, but, if it happens that the goalkeeper intervenes many times, it means something did not work well, collectively and defensively.

Going by him, the defense that played against Burundi was not the same that played against South Africa.

It is also necessary to change players coupled with the fact that the local championship was halted for some time and players get wounded and instead go back home.

He justifies the lateness of some professionals to camp in these words, “It is not the Fifa period and we have no choice, that is why Franck Bagnack arrived late and it is not easy for us professionals.

Following our play style we are taught not to wait for the opponent and in line with the spirit of the coach, I had to go upfront to get the balls.

Consequently, if the group is playing upfront and the goalkeeper remains static in the goal and in a situation whereby airborne balls bypass everyone, the goalkeeper has to take charge, act very fast and play far inside the field.
