Coton Sport maintain group leadership in Conf. Cup

This was thanks to a zero-all tie recorded on Tuesday, against AC Leopard of Dolisie, Congo in this year's African Confederations Cup.

Despite pulling a zero-all-tie against AC Leopard of Dolisie last Tuesday in a late Day one encounter of the group stage of the ongoing African Confederations Cup in the republic of Congo, Coton Sport of Garoua maintained the top seat of the group with a two-point margin.

Coton Sports leads the group with seven points, followed by AC Leopard of Congo on five points. ASEC Mimosa comes third with two points and AS Real of Bamako-Mali closes the chart with barely one point.

Coton Sport is therefore in a pole position to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition given that they have two matches at home and one away during the return leg of the group phase of the competition. They will take on ASEC Mimosa on the first day of play of the return leg on July 27 and will play host to arch rivals, AC Leopard a fortnight later at the Roundé Adja stadium in Garoua.

The only game Coton Sport will have to play out of the country will be against Real of Bamako during the weekend running from August 22 to 24. The other challengers, AC Leopard and ASEC Mimosa will have to win all their return leg matches to hope to clinch a spot in the semi finals of the competition.

Meanwhile AC Leopard will be trying to catch-up with Coton Sport on the next day of play when they equally take on AS Real of Bamako. It has been an impressive performance from Coton Sport ever since they dropped out of the prestigious African champions’ league and joined the Confederations Cup.

The colossus from the north have so far won two matches and drawn one. They beat Real of Bamako 2-1 in their first outing in the competition and narrowly edged ASEC Mimosa 3-2 in their second outing.
