Cameroon joins Nigeria in AWC finals

Cameroon qualified for the final of the African Women’s Championship Namibia 2014 following a 2-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire after extra-time at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek on Wednesday evening.

Gaëlle Enganamouit opened the score for the Indomitable Lioness at the hour mark, but it only took the Ivoirians five minutes to get back into the game through Ines N’Rehy.

The two teams were level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, taking the game into extra time.

And Cameroon’s skipper Christine Manie ultimately scored the winner two minutes away from the whistle taking the two sides into a penalty shootout, to book their ticket for Saturday’s final against Nigeria’s Super Falcons, who enjoyed a 2-1 win over South Africa earlier on, as well as for a spot in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

This will be the third time that the two nations meet in the final of the continental tournament, with Nigeria on the winning side in both the 1991 and the 2004 editions.

However, the Lionesses defeated the Super Falcons 1-0 in their last AWC meeting, in the third-place play-off of the previous campaign in Equatorial Guinea.
