Cameroon hold their breath as Mbia suffers injury

Cameroon could be dealt a hammer blow after Sevilla’s midfielder Stéphane Mbia suffered a hamstring injury against Celta Vigo in La Liga on Saturday.

The Indomitable Lions’ skipper had to leave the pitch after 20 minutes of play following a ruthless tackle from Carles Planas.

“After being examined in situ by the club’s medical staff, the Cameroonian will undergo further testing on Monday to determine the extent of the injury,” Sevilla stated on their official website.

The Lions will begin their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations Equatorial Guinea 2015 in Mbankomo this Monday, and will face DR Congo in their first warm-up friendly in Yaoundé on January 7 before heading to Libreville, Gabon, where they will resume an eight-day camp prior to the tournament.

Cameroon will kick off their continental campaign against Mali in Malabo on January 20, before facing their two other Group D opponents, Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire.
