Cameroon crash out as Mali, Guinea ‘hang on’

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have crashed out of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations following their 1-0 defeat in the hands of their fierce rivals Ivory Coast on Wednesday night in Malabo.

Max Gradel’s wonder strike in the 35th minute was all that was needed by the Elephants to secure their place amongst the last eight teams still standing at the 2015 AFCON tournament.

Despite the four minutes added time, the Cameroon players just could not find an equaliser as they barely had any shot on target.

The defeat thus meant the end of the road for the four-time champions who were tipped by some pundits as one of the favourites for the trophy.

In the other game, Guinea and Mali played out the fifth 1-1 draw of the group and will have to wait until lots are drawn on Thursday to decide who will be joining Ivory Coast in the last eight.

In the quarter final pairings, the Ivorians will face Algeria in the last eight while in other pairings, it will be Congo Vs Congo Dr.

Tunisia will face hosts, Equatorial Guinea, while Ghana is to face either Mali or Guinea.
