Cam vs SA: Good news for Bafana on injury front

Bafana Bafana player Bafana Bafana player

Despite a report that three Bafana Bafana players could be serious doubts for the all-important Afcon 2017 Qualifiers clash against Cameroon on Saturday, news emanating from the Bafana camp suggests that the respective injuries are not as serious as initially thought.

Defenders Anele Ngcongca and Thabo Matlaba, as well as inspirational midfielder Andile Jali are currently nursing respective injuries. Ngcongca is suffering from stomach muscle while Matlaba has a toe injury (though he has trained with the team), with 'AJ15' having dislocated his shoulder.

Bafana team doctor, Thulani Ngwenya, confirmed with the Siya crew that the injuries aren’t too serious.

"We are going to be monitoring these injuries and see how the players are progressing,” he told the Siya crew.

“These are not serious injuries. We just want to make sure that everyone in the team is fit and ready for the game over the weekend," Ngwenya concluded.

Shakes Mashaba's charges take on Cameroon on Saturday, March 26, away from home, before the return tie on Tuesday, March 29 at the majestic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

All but three players are in camp, with the Mamelodi Sundowns trio of Asavela Mbekile, Hlompho Kekana & Themba Zwane expected to arrive today.

Meanwhile Bafana will have to do without striker, Dino Ndlovu, who has been withdrawn from the squad for both ties due to knee injury. Ndumiso Mabena has been called up to replace the Anorthosis Famagusta man.
