Cameroon head coach Hugo Broos has revealed that he has engaged with Marvin Matip about convincing his brother, Joel, to make a return to the Cameroon national team this year.

Joel hasn't played for the Indomitable Lions since the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Cameroon exited the tournament in the group stages, with off-field drama overshadowing what was a disastrous tournament for the West Africans.

With Alex Song agreeing to make his long-awaited return to the national set-up, Broos is eager to get Joel back on board, but admits the chances of the Liverpool bound defender playing against Mauritania in June are slim.

"Matip, I think it will a little bit more difficult with him," said Broos when quizzed about the chances of Joel making an international u-turn.

"Also, with him, I had a meeting, but his brother [Marvin] is here so I put a little pressure on his brother and I hope that he can convince him."

FC Ingolstadt 04 captain Marvin played in home and away fixtures against South Africa last month.

Cameroon top group M after four rounds of fixtures, one point above surprise package Mauritania, who host the Indomitable Lions in Nouakchott in two months' time.
