Arsenal should sign Samuel Eto’o - Ian Wright

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes that manager Arsene Wenger should make a move for Everton-linked Samuel Eto’o in the wake of the injury to Olivier Giroud.

The injury to Olivier Giroud has sparked suggestions that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will sign a striker before the end of the summer transfer window.

The France international could miss all footballing action for the next three months due to the ankle injury he picked up against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Giroud was on target in that Premier League match which ended in a 2-2 draw, but suffered the problem late on.

It has now been widely reported in the British media that Arsenal boss Wenger will delve into the market, with Queens Park Rangers star Loic Remy and (surprise, surprise) Danny Welbeck of Manchester United believed to be on the Gunners’ radar.

However, Arsenal should try to sign former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o, according to club legend Ian Wright, who posted his thought on social networking site Twitter.

The idea of Arsenal signing Eto’o is not exactly bad. The Cameroon international is a free agent so will not cost the North London outfit any transfer fee; he is a natural goalscorer and even at 33 still can be a good asset.

Moreover, Eto’o has experience of playing in the Premier League - his 2013-14 campaign with Chelsea was not as bad as some would suggest.

There is one small problem: it may be too late for Arsenal to sign Eto’o. That’s because the former Real Mallorca and Inter Milan striker is reportedly on his way to Everton. According to The Guardian, he ‘is poised’ to join the Liverpool-based club on a two-year contract.

But is there still time for Arsenal to make a last-ditch attempt and snap up Eto’o? Until the papers have been officially signed, nothing can be written off.
