The Hammers have already agreed terms with Barcelona for the Cameroon international but ankle problem could now lead to ANOTHER year's loan.
West Ham are trying to save Alex Song's move to Upton Park.
Barcelona midfielder Song could have to go under the knife to remove a piece of bone which has caused an ankle injury.
That has put his switch in serious doubt even though West Ham had already agreed terms for the 27-year-old former Arsenal midfielder. He is hoping the lay-off will not be as long as first feared.
But the Hammers are now proposing a second one-year loan but with a view to a fixed permanent deal, which could help it go through - even if Song misses the start of the season.
Cameroon international Song, who has been receiving treatment for the injury, spent last season on loan at West Ham and is keen to rejoin the club.
