Mbesa, Oku should build a peaceful atmosphere - Governor

North West Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique North West Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique

Any comprehensive insurance that Oku and Mbesa will not continue to exercise violence after the materialization work on their boundary?

Perhaps; I should first of all, commend efforts by the Fons of Mbesa and Oku to create a conducive environment for the Administration to definitely settle the over 70- year old boundary dispute pitting both communities. The decision to end the conflict was taken by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization following proposals from the Regional Commission set up in 2007 to examine and demarcate the boundary between Mbesa in Boyo division and Oku in Bui division.

Conclusions of the Regional Commission’s work were signed by both parties before the final decision of the Minister. It is against this background that the Technical Commission was installed in Mbesa on April 20, 2016 to effectively materialize work on the boundary. We are convinced that their work will be hitch-free following assurances by the Mayors and traditional leaders of Mbesa and Oku.

What message do you have to both communities?

I want to stress that Cameroon is a state of law. It can happen that after demarcating the boundary, an Oku person could find himself on the side of Mbesa and vice versa. In this case, they will have to continue settling there because the laws and regulations of the country stand by them to obtain a land title wherever they settle. The new found spirit of collaboration between the Fons of Oku and Mbesa is an inspiration for their populations to co-exist as a people with a common origin.

Nobody can be buried along with a piece of land and so, Mbesa and Oku people should focus on building a peaceful atmosphere to foster their livelihoods instead of creating tension that slow their efforts towards progress and development.
