Incandescent lights will give way to the LED system.

Douala will soon acquire new traffic lights. Indeed, some strategic points of the economic city are without traffic lights for some time. According to the national daily newspaper Cameroon Tribune, one can quote the junction of the market of the old station on the side of the Douala Central market, the Akwa Bakery and Bepanda at the Baho college entrance. Traffic jams are numerous, perpetuating blockages in other axes.

It is to correct this sad case that the executive of the Douala City Council (DCC) has prioritized the de-congestion of traffic. Indeed, we learn that the DCC has planned to invest nearly 450 million CFA francs for the next three years in the signaling equipment. Traffic lights still in good condition will be renovated, while other junctions will benefit from new facilities.

The novelty is that incandescent lights experienced by road users will give way to the LED system. This is, according to the paper, several small bulbs in one block instead of one, as is the case now.

For the year 2016, the junctions concerned are the Njo Njo on the side of Bonapriso and Nanfah, located just opposite the Vita Makepe course, we learn. In the coming years, traffic lights are expected on the side of the Zachmann junction at Ndogbong and Maçon at Bonamoussadi in 2017. In 2018, it will be the turn of from Ange Raphael to the Cité SIC and Rhone Poulenc Makepe.

To address the lack of constant energy that disrupts the maximum operation of these facilities, DCC officials found solutions with integration in boxes of lights, autonomous power supplies (batteries) to supply the energy deficit. This will also require a large investment.
