Njinikom Councillors thank Mayor Terence Chah

Meeting in session Thursday, March 31, 2016, for the examination and adoption of the 2015 administrative and management accounts of the Mayor, Councillors of the Njinikom scored their Mayor excellent for efficiently and judiciously managing the council accounts for the just-ended financial year.

Addressing the Council session the Mayor declared FCFA 281 million as collected revenue for 2015. Chah Bam Terence then continued to explain that he spend over 227 in the realisation of projects amongst them the construction of classrooms, rehabilitation of health centres.

Also, there has been the construction of sheds in some markets and bridges, opening of roads amongst them the road to Mbueni through Jemchi as landmark realisations of the council in the past year, provision of benches to schools within the municipality and rehabilitation of electricity i,n Yang.

With the current revenue, the Mayor announced to the satisfaction of the councillors that the Njinikom council will soon be moving from category four to three. “With the current improvements in our administrative accounts from the revenue we were able to collect and donations from donors, it enabled us to raise our budget and our accounts have also moved from 171million to 281 million.

I'm positive that with impending revenue generating projects which we are still lobbying like the construction of markets shed to cover the whole of the area above Jua Memorial College and more sheds in Kikfini, we will hit 300million which will completely put us on category three,” the mayor said.

Corroborating the Mayor, the chairman of the finance committee noted that “the movement in category will serve as a positive pointer for the council and stakeholders.” Lawrence Nkain Yong added “councillors will have their sitting allowances, transport, and mission allowances increased and placing the council in a better position to source for bigger loans from FEICOM to boost development in the council area, I use to hear of deficits in this council.

Now there has been a three-year history of consistent positive balance from one year to the other thanks to the present mayor”, he noted that “as chairman of the finance committee, I shall dig deep into the arbitrary auctioning of the council property sanctioned by his committee though the process was not backed by a council deliberation as stipulated by law.”



On a deliberation bearing on the buying of a car for the Mayor and the Council, Councilors failed to give their consent but instead pleaded with the Mayor to continue sacrificing for the growth of the municipality by serving the council with his private car as he has been doing in the past three years.

In reaction, Mayor Chah Bam said “I remain a satisfied mayor. I came to the council to serve the people. I have been using my vehicles to serve the municipality. I did not come to cultivate personal wealth in the council. I cannot decide now to take a loan to buy a luxurious car for the council when the resources are not there. It will not make sense; it will not develop Njinikom. It will rather drain it. The living conditions of the people must be alleviated first.”
