Pierre Helé proposes measures to curb flooding in Logone

Water, without which there is no life is possible, can sometimes turn into disaster as long as it turns into impetuous waves. The populations of Maga, in the Valley of the Logone region of the far North live the drama of seasonal flooding.

They have constantly tried to put an end to this situation without success. Recently, an approach to the comprehension of this phenomenon was unveiled to the public. Through the return of 'strategic environmental audit of the floods in the area of influence of irrigation in Maga, the Minister of the environment, nature protection and sustainable development, Pierre Helé presented before an audience composed of representatives of sectoral administrations, civil society, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations the synthesis of a 363-page study.

As a strategic document, the study begins with an analysis of the situation and was completed by an action plan. I.e. catalogue of interventions to be implemented, by identified administrations, according to their area of expertise.

All in all, this is a land use plan which, apart from stemming out floods, proposed the allocation of spaces and their use within a sustainable development context. A management approach defined in the spirit of the Brundtland report as "development." that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations.

In the case of the basin of Logone, the purpose is to reverse the current situation. So as to take more advantage of water availability and its low current use identified as source of flooding.

Furthermore, the identification of Constructible zones should subtract weather furies populations, if applicable. This innovative approach is derived from the range of instruments which offers sustainable development.
